So… we’ve been working on the new site, even in my sleep, or thinking about it way to much anyway. Lots of pics coming about the stuff we’ve been busting ass on all summer. Got some features on the new site that I’m sure you’ll find fun to read as well. Here is a pic of New HemiRoid -really the first one totally redone again and finished properly A/C, windows, what more could you want. there will be a full write up on this and much more once the new site is switched to the “on” position.

Thanks, Stony

Joe’s 54 Olds

Posted in Uncategorized on April 8th, 2010 by stony

Joe…..is a funny guy -solid, but funny, we’ve been talking forever about which car and what he wants to do to it, he found this 54 Olds in town, it needs work but it’s a hard top. I have to keep telling him not to chop deck nose slice, section –everything just to make this car different; it’s cool just the way it is -get it running smooth, fix the rust, etc before we get into it. I want to make sure he has a solid car, but Joe he’s an intense guy and he finally beat me down to do some work to it –nothing major just cosmetics –so then began the hunt –it’s funny how cars come together, you have an idea of what you want based on what you’ve seen around –I’ve said it before –these things build themselves the pieces you find along your journey are the pieces you use on the car; kind of like your fate brings the parts together –or something, I wonder how that works?…anyway where was I…ah yes.

So Joe managed to scrounge up some really cool pieces and others from the bottom of a lake and it all worked out quite well. I was totally amazed how well those 57 Chevy fenders fit perfectly right over the olds fenders prior to cutting them in. The 1960-ish(?) Plymouth fins are an interesting choice but cool, he’ll have to do some work with the taillight arrangement so everyone can see him. Not sure what the front bumper is from, but the rear is a 56 Pontiac I think Joe said. Of course it all bolded on with no issues, like everything –it required loads of “massaging” to be straightened then modified and welded, then welded to the car –and repeat.  I forgot, check the side profile shot see how he’s got 2” between the ground and the lake pipe –not anymore, we installed a 4-link as well to get it lower. He’s running a 2 pump hydraulic suspension with accumulators –his pipes were almost ground in half and that’s the way he likes it!

For me this car is done and left for home today so he can get it ready for the summer. It’ll be back again for some mods, that’s why I can never settle on a paint colour, I’m always modifying it, why drop lots of cake on paint if you going to cut into it next week? Just drive it!

That evil “winter” has arrived again

Posted in Uncategorized on October 28th, 2009 by stony

Ok, so I’ve pestered, bothered and beaten up enough……the update! Finally

It was a fast summer with no heat, but in the shop we’ve been busting ass trying to keep up with projects, cars, future plans, construction, and trying to keep our shop dogs from escaping and freaking the golfers.

Jason’s 50 Ford has left for home, super nice, so tight you have to roll a window down to close the doors properly. I really like the way this truck turned out, and YES that the final colour(he loves that question!) He’s even had people say it looks like an elephant with the Terraplane grill on it.

There are some unusual aspects of this truck you might not notice, the rear axle is really wide, something like 4” this side of an Hummer H1; It’s a F150 rear axle, that would have usually used 17” rims, so we had to keep moving the rims out till they cleared the brakes, to compensate we widened the box out. -almost a fleet side. It’s got Air bags on the back with Schrader valves(totally recommend this set up, best ride ever).

He went with a 331 Hemi we rebuilt with a mild cam and a WC T-5 with a Hydraulic clutch, smooth set-up. I’ll got loads of pics and if there is anything you want to see or know just ask!

Bill’s 30 Plymouth is staged to come in for the finale , we been playing catch up trying to smaller jobs in and out prior to winter, I love the way this car sits, total gangster. 4 doors and fenders aren’t usually my thing but this is cool. This car will be painted and have a full interior, A/C -the works; then it’s off to Florida. Bill an I have been bantering about Cold vs. Heat, he’d like to have Snow, and of course we’d like more heat!

Keith’s 69 Mustang, I like doing work for Soldiers -direct and to the point, just like me. The fact we can parts for this one is a bonus, we’re used to dealing with custom everything. The unfortunate part of this car was that it was hit with a plow in BC then fixed, now we’ll have to tear it all down to fix the damage, before we get to have any fun rebuilding.

Chris’s shoebox, typical Canadian car and another Soldier, solid guy! Floors, inner outer rockers, floor supports, tranny tunnel, body mounts, motor swap; Plus to top it all off it had been hit hard, so we ended up cutting the “B” post’s out and re-locating them so the doors would at least close it the right spots. Now he has a safe car that he can have some fun in when he finishes it up

Joe and the Olds, nice car, we still have to do a bunch of work to this car, taillights, headlights, 4-link, etc. I really dig this car and the stance, but he wants it LOWER…. so I included some pics.

and every so often we do work to new stuff

General Fab, we do allsorts of work outside cars and bikes, general welding and fabrication is the back bone to what we do, if you need something done let us know.

T-shirts, I know I’ve talked about this before, and I’ve finally come up with a clever spin of a classic that I think you’ll think is fun, but since I’m a glutton for punishment –I’ve decided to buy our own 4 color press and make them ourselves, but then Time got in the way, Again! Stay tuned! I’ll announce it when they’re ready.

Manufacturing, That’s right –I’ve been Balls deep into trying to get everything planned out for making what I think the world needs with our twist on it, Stay tuned Kiddies! This one will be fun.

The Extension! We needed more space, so we’re making more room. Hopefully we’ll get the siding on Prior to snow.

The Show’s, we haven’t gone to any show’s this year, but starting this winter we’ll be at the indoor shows, and hitting as many as we can next summer. Come on by and say hi.

Halloween, We seem to be magnets for everything unusual as well, prior to Halloween this year we’ve made all sorts of “Movie prop like items” for costumes -the extra violent type, the kind that won’t get you into the bar for the party.

img_3820-small.JPG

The Pool? Some of you were wondering why I had posted pics of my pool we were digging out; I’m a skater(got the broken bones to prove it) and pools are kind of rare especially up here. I had no idea what was under the dirt when we started excavating, turns out, to skate it -it’s going to need a hole lot of tranny to made so…. As luck would have it, and with my wife rolling her eyes(although happy she gets her pool back) my friend Peter needed a place to put his Heffer Ramp -48’wide, 10ft radius and a 1′ of vert!!!! it was the vert ramp they used for the first X-games in Rhode island 95/96, and it’s coming here! This spring! No you can’t come skate it…..well maybe but you’ll have to ask nice.

For Sale: Cars finance cars, and bikes finance bikes, I have to keep moving forward, once a car or bike leave the shop, it’s done, I’d rather sell it than work on it again, so I’m selling off some stuff, the harley we built for Sgt. Splatter 74 sporty and the HemiRoid -although I might paint it and drive it next year, we’ll see, taking offers on both.

Looking for a 1921 Cadillac motor, V8. we have a customer here that is looking for a block, his blew up, and is beyond repair, any leads?…..

-And finally if you see two shop dogs out running around that look like this, please bring them back –they’re friendly unless your wearing a squirrel outfit. Bishop and Chewy

DicE 27 - Hon’s bike

Posted in 74 Sportster, Bikes, Our Work on August 7th, 2009 by Oddball

Congrats to Hon for getting his bike into DicE 27! I remember him pacing around the 2008 CNE swap meet, leaving and then coming back to grab the bike and asking Stony for our help to bring it back to the Oddball shop where we started it’s rebuild. Zac Husted headed up the build at Oddball until the “Big Update”, when he took it home to his garage to finish up. Check out Zac and Hon’s blog at, www.throttlefmc.com. The paint is by Jaymes at Blue Moon Kustoms bluemoonkustoms.blogspot.com, it looks awesome. We’ll be digging up some more build shots during this bikes time at Oddball to post soon, stay tuned . . .

Another classic in the making

img_0916-small.JPG

Now I looked in my mirror and I saw somethin’ comin’,     I thought it was a plane by the way it was a-runnin’.     It was a-hummin’ along at a terrible pace,     and I knew right then it was the end of the race.      When it flew by us, I turned the other way,     the guy in the Mercury had nothin’ to say,     for it was a kid, in a hopped up Model-A.”     “Hot Rod Race”    The Mountain Dew Boys - 1951 Another one goes home to Chris so he can finish it off.img_0906-small.JPG

This was a fun nostalgia project; one that Chris said was inspired by the fact that his Dad Ken was an original member of the Igniters Rod & Custom Club back in the day. The hi-boy roadster body, stovebolt engine, extended ‘32 rails, and cool stance give it a real late 40’s flavour. It’s nice to build one of these every so often to keep us grounded; otherwise I’d be off in outer 60’s show car space again. Chris found this amazing body in pieces, neatly stacked up against the wall of its previous caretaker’s garage. After countless weekends and many grinding discs later, Chris turned the body over to us for the final mock-up. Kind of like a giant ’29 roadster model kit –nothing a bit of time and some old fashioned ingenuity can’t solve! img_0912-small.JPG

He had also wanted to use this Inline-6 from his Mom’s old ‘58 Chevy and didn’t want to sink it into the fire wall, so we stretched the frame in front of the fire wall 6 inches, re-profiled the taper, boxed it and bobbed the rear frame rails. Presto! An extended wheelbase ’32 frame. img_0910-small.JPG

This car will be on the road soon so keep your eye out for it! And ask him what happened while taking it home. It’s a good story but it sounds better coming from him. If you have any questions about this car or any others, drop us an e-mail.
